One of the most popular movies of the 70s and a real tribute to the fashions, attitudes and lifestyles of the 50s, the movie Grease offers tons of opportunities to relive those days at your next Halloween party. There are a number of cool characters in the movie that would provide great inspirations for a costume. Since it has been a while since the movie was playing, it may be hard to find a fifties costume in the stores, but there are many to choose from online. Here is a brief outline of some of the main characters and what their costumes would look like.
Sandy
Sandy was a typical fifties girl, wearing poodle skirts and bobby socks until she meets and falls in love with the popular high school greaser Danny. In her efforts to fit into his style, she throws off her feminine attire and dons a sexy black fifties female greaser look just for him. This costume would include tight fitting black Capri length leather pants, an off the shoulder silky black shirt and a little black leather jacket to go over top. The only thing left to finish off your Sandy look is a blond short ponytail wig.
Danny
Danny is your typical 50s greaser. Everything is black; black jacket, black pants, black t-shirt, black belt and black socks and shoes. If you take off the jacket, your t-shirt sleeves have to be rolled up. As a finishing touch and to add an authentic look you’ll have to grease your hair all back and dye it back, or find a wig.
A Danny and Sandy outfit would make a great costume for couples that want to be sure to get on the finalists list in any Halloween costume competition!
Other than these two main characters Oliver Newton and John Grease, a grease costume would also be suited to any fifties outfit. A brightly colored summer dress with a full skirt, a poodle skirt with a little cardigan, some saddle shoes and bobby socks for the gals, and any tight fitting jeans, rolled sleeve t-shirt with greased back hair would be all you need to go as one of the troupe from this fantastic hit musical Grease. Get your costume for pink ladies in Grease and make your best entrance.

Ooh I always wanted to be a Pink Lady, they were just so cool. I haven’t thought about them in ages, but Grease was such a fun film. I think I might go for Frenchie & that way I get to have pink hair too.

I just love Grease. It was one of the first movies I saw in a theater. I think my sister and I actually went together. Funny, her daughter loves Grease, has every DVD ever made it seems, performed the music of Grease with her chorus group. Just such fun and good memories.

I haven’t been born when it was the golden age of Grease but that doesn’t mean I don’t love it. It’s a delightfully engaging movie, and who can’t help but sing along to all those hits, right?

Creating the Danny-look would be a great idea for a fancy dress party. Grease has of course created a legacy and so the costumes will always bring a smile to your fellow friends as soon as they see who walks through the door.
